Greetings everyone.
I have just bought another radio but I am having trouble identifying it. it has 59391 stamped on the back. 6 valves, 6X5GT, 6M5, 6B07, 6N8, 6AN7 and 6BH5. It has 4 knobs out the front and the band switch seems to have 5 positions.
It is too big to fit on my mantle piece so I guess it is a tabletop radio. The tuning pointer sticks out the top of the radio to where a glass dial backing is supposed to fit.

Philips/Mullard made a series of radios with both wooden & bakelite cabinets, ranging from mantle through table to console size, characterised by a free standing or pivoted glass dial sticking out of the top of the radio. eg
http://thebakeliteradio.com/page39/page39.html.
Another characteristic is the extremely poor adhesion of the dial markings, usually all in white.
Perhaps yours is one of these.

I can't find any radio with that specific line-up including the 6X5, although I can find some including Philips/Mullard with a 6V4 rectifier.
Photo's are not my strong point.
Maybe not, but I think we'll need a few (in-focus) ones in this case. Expertise comes with experience, so give it a go.

Brad, I have Emailed a picture for this post. Do you have an icon for vintage-radio I could use in my favourites?
STC, It looks similar to the 1940's Mullard "The Eleven O' Three" but the top is flat and all knobs come out the front. What did the Philips models look like?

Sorry, I said it had 6 valves but I only listed 5.
It has 6 valves, 6X5GT, 6M5, 6B07, 6N8, 6AN7 and 6BH5.
I have edited the origional post.
STC, that is too many radios. I don't feel so bad now. Those 2 radio's have an indentation and slope on the top where the dial glass is, this one is flat on the top. They also have wooden slats across the speaker fabric, this one is open with a pattern in rope across the grille cloth.
I guess we wait for Brad to list the picture.
Regards.

There's no 6B07. Do you mean 6BQ7? Please correct.

Do you mean an avatar image? If so, I don't as a rule though if you make an 80 x 80 pixel image and e-mail it to me I can host it on the site for you. It can be anything G-rated.
Also, there was no attachment in your e-mail. Can you try resending?

Sorry, should have said 2nd pic in the link.
Some Philips radios in the '50s had patterns of thin cord across the grill cloth.

Brad, I have resent the picture.
By icon I mean a little picture that I can have on the shortcut on the desktop, instead of the ugly internet explorer E
GTC, I am not sure, somebody wiped off the numbers but they have nifty little stickers on them with the number written in pen. I wonder how long it will take for them to burn off? It has 9 pins.
Does anyone have a manual for a Mullard MAS1154?
Thanks.

Yes, I have the schematic and notes for that model, but that has 3 x 6N8s in it.

Yes, I saw it had those 3 in it but it is the closest I could find. Does it have a picture of the radio with the schematic?
I want to compare the circuit with this radio.
Thanks.

I am not sure how to replace Windows icons apart from choosing that function from a right click. As far as I know the choices are fairly limited though.

G'day All,
Philips made a number of models using the cabinet displayed in the above pic. Some of them were rebadged and sold under the Mullard brand.
Philips model 125 is the only 6 valve chassis to use this cabinet to my knowledge. However its valve lineup was; a 6N8 RF amp, 6AN7 converter, 6N8 IF amp/dect, 6N8 AF amp, 6M5 Power amp and 6X5 Rect.
The schematic for the Mullard MAS1154 is identical to the Philips 125.
I'm sure Marc would like these models knowing his love for 6N8s and 6X5s.
One problem with these models was the foldable dial glass which would be pushed or pulled to raise/lower its angle for better viewing resulting in the print being removed from the rear or the glass being cracked.
I have several of this model and overall, they are a very good performer.
Will email the schematics later today.
Cheers, Graham...

Brad, regarding the icon, if you make a shortcut on your desktop it will display a blue E if you have internet explorer. If you right click it go to 'properties' then 'change icon' you can point it to a picture to display on the shortcut. Click 'browse' to find more icons.
Some shortcuts you download have the picture already inside the shortcut.
I was just asking if vintage-radio had a logo I could use, otherwise I will use a picture of a nice old radio.
Thanks.
