Wow the cabinet looks nice but take a look at what the previous tech has done to it. Its a 6 valve Set. The valve line up is 6X5, 6SQ7 x 2, 6sh7 , 6SJ7 & 6V6. its a bit of a bitza. Am sending photos to Brad. Take a look at the tuning gang!
Yeah the power supply is a bit suspect.

It is not unusual to find sets early on, that kept basically the same circuit, but with equivalent tubes of the next generation. Naturally a change from filament tubes to heater tubes is going to need substantial changes especially in the area of bias. Therefore it may be the circuit of another.
Gangs can be interesting, on AM sets; two gangs common, Three gangs can be a TRF stage ahead of the frequency changer, for cleaner RF into the frequency changer. Few use double conversion. The most unusual I have worked on is an American "Midwest" with four gangs two being for its rare Colpitts multi band exciter oscillator (Autodyne aka Screen Grid type).
Also unusual an AWA set with a bandpass filter as first IF.

I thought the GT series was a 1940's thing?

See the pop rivets near the valve sockets - a tell tale sign of a change to octals.

I note the Radio Museum comment similar to HMV. There is a radio here that is a restoration disaster where DIY became Destroy It Yourself.
Seven dry joints & a short, plus dangerous mains wiring, is not a record, seen worse.
Possibly as a starter get its previous circuit & work from there. I think we would all like more detailed photos of the tuner. The rake blades are not likely to be tuning forks.

Having the tuner inside the box is not that common in a domestic radio. Its not just there to keep the dust out of it its a "Faraday Cage".
I am currently reviewing an article on a Philco BC-221-N Frequency Meter that I resurrected around 2017. That, despite having all metal tubes, also protects its tuning gang, by having it in a "Faraday Cage"
Most bizarre application of "Faraday Cages" happened in two 18 &16 tube American sets. There were radiating 6D6's out of one cage and another inside a cage, destabilising it. One set was a high frequency job, almost a coms receiver & it also had a four gang tuner with a Colpitts oscillator. One of them had four output tubes in push pull driven by another push pull amp: Transformer coupled.
Not to be out done, one had an audio wire passing a large hole in the cage, & the other one a radiating RF wire running through and getting into the audio.
