Fred the trouble is that resistor is way out of reach.

I still remember the colour blindness test I took before being able to start my trade course. It was a case of no colours, no start and the test, using the Japanese Ishihara Test, was by no means easy.

RE#91. I only have the photo to go by, would be nice to have a close up of the convertor end of the chassis.

I can see the easy resistors in the air, there are 2 x 22k in parallel, they would be the screens and osc anode dropper to get about 100v.
Then there is a 3 meg ohm? hooked to the aerial coill, most likely an AGC feed from the detector and lastly the 50 ohm hooking to the volume control ciruit.
The 3 megohm? would most likely be high, the other ok.
Getting the prods onto the ends will give you a clue to the value of ohms without lifting unsoldering one lead to remove circuit shunting.
I cant see any 50k grid leak which is most likely the one you are talking about its probably mounted right down onto the valve socket.
Wish I had the chassis on my bench!

Cheers, Fred.

If the resistor is the grid leak, then with the radio off and the valve out, one end of the resistor would be the grid cap, and the other probably the cathode accessible at the valve socket. If you get ~50K has to be it.
Or have I misunderstood the situation?

50K on grid one pentagrid direct to cathode (not ground) is a common arrangement. 50K and 500K resistors seem to have an attrition rate, especially on the audio output tubes and the plate resistors in hundreds of K on 2nd detector first audio, tend not fare any better.

RRe #94 STC the grid leak is on the oscillator grid so the resistor is usually strung across socket pins.
The top cap is the control grid.
Fred.

I did wonder as the control grid usually leaks through the oscillator coil somehow. The main point though was not to forget the valve sockets as a test point which I tend to do when concentrating on the rats nest underneath.

I just found the problem with the tuning! A bit of dirt in the tuning gang!

Robert lol the Artist did that lol.
But he did make the danger sticker plus the others. I suggested he put on the Sticker that Carl Tallar stuffed around with this lol.

Since I started using this one on a daily basis and given the tuning gang a bit of a workout the problem doesn't seem to exist . Its a very strong little set now.
