Thanks,and thanks to Brad.
All good .
Now I have to do some careful comparisons.
Certainly very similar, maybe a bit younger.
Same IF coils and tuning adjustments.
Same tuning gang.
Same alignment adjustments except aerial and oscillator adjustments are mounted on side of chassis with access from outside chassis.
However today did find that a radiolette 38 circuit is almost identical from what I have checked. Layout different.
Still confused on mixer bit, looks too professional and makes it towards 1938/39. Or kitset.
The remaining two original knobs look like high quality with brass inserts.
May have to give in on this one and write providence as best I can, make safe and reliable, do a cabinet job as best possible, test run and put on shelf. Then it's up to the kids, "skip" or keep.
I am trying to inform them as to which I consider forever keepers, and perhaps worth a few shingles.

Good luck mate. Should you decide to do a full restore let me know, you can have the Commodore chassis for spares.

There are very few sets that have trimmers on the side, trimmers on the back, or pushrod trimmers.
It may be sucking eggs, but be seriously aware with top trimmer IF's, that one is alive. If that is shorted to the can, you may be looking for a new unit. Metal shafted drivers are a no no with them.

Re country of origin for the Commodore chassis.
Does the ARTS&P decal make reference to the Commonwealth of Australia or the Dominion of New Zealand?
This will tell you if the set is Aussie or Kiwi made.

I blew the photo up as best I could and had to compare the text to another image to work it out - to the best I can, it looks like it is an Aussie radio.

Yes, I just read the label and it refers to Commonwealth of Australia.

Are you able to get a better image of that logo in the cartouche at the top of the dial? You will likely need to consider the angle of the light.

Its similar(the chassis) but not quite the same and mine would be a little older, perhaps 1938/39.
Thanks JJ

Here again we have features unique to some types, upmarket sets tend to have features others don't and that will appear in the adds.
Once again photos of chasses can reveal things the dials with the globes in the tubes only appear in a select range of sets.
I tend to have stuff scattered everywhere at the moment as I am gradually shuffling it between Mobile HDD's & Zips clearing decades of duplication & obsolete stuff. An almost full 2TB ext. drive is currently down to near a third. However, as I have hoarded photo's of just about everything fixed, from the dawn of digital cameras & some earlier. I can scan (time allowing) through makes & get an idea of those that used that style of dial. That style of lamp holder appears on other shaped dials.

Just noticed something odd. At the top centre of the dial it says 2TM in larger yellow letters. Does that change as you turn the dial? How does that work?

Robbert I was interested in that one as well because 2TM is Tamworths Station where I grew up. They were partly responsible for instigating The Tamworth Country Music Festival.
Johny I'm interested to know more!

Yes, there is a card behind the dial drum which has only selected NSW stations.
It seems that this card would be very difficult to change?
Was browsing through some Radio, TV and Hobbies mags which start in 1939.
And found several projects that showed the earth wiring busbar layout system as used on my Skyhawk.
One such project was called Skyraider.......
So still leaning towards a kitset or a very elaborate home made radio out of parts/assemblies available at that time.
Interesting, but nothing conclusive yet.

Johny you mention Skyraider! Which points me in the direction of "Reliance Radio" who sold mainly through mail order or directly from their factory in Barrack Street Sydney. I havent heard of them doing kits but possibly did through their mail order.
