One of my contacts has a lot of old gear he wants clear.
I have sent him a link to join this group. I will try and keep you upto date.
Here are his words.
I have a storage unit full of very old radio bits - 1920s-1950s - that I need to be rid of. It's costing me money to keep them there. Would be good if you could have a look sometime. They're at Warrawong; I'm at Dapto.

Whilst I have few members actively repairing or collecting I know of others that are.

On that basis it would be interesting to get an idea of what is there.

There was a recent clearance here of a members estate': House books & over flowed a decent size shearing shed & its skillion.

The photos only show resistors and capacitors, which is why I didn't show any interest. But if there's valves, then that could be a different story.

Ceramics or mica caps would have interested me, but didn't spoy any in the photos.

Failures of micas, even in low voltage situations are starting to happen, so if they are the right voltage there might be a market for them. I have a limited stock of NOS and ratted micas which luckily have been suitable, but I have been looking around for a reasonably priced kit of NPO ceramics with a range of values, of at least 500V.

Your best choice these days to replace mica caps is polyprop caps. Styros are good too but have become scarce due to the unavailability of the raw material. Polyprop caps are suitable to replace all these, they have the same very low tempco. Plus they don;t suffer from the intermittent O/C issue that plagues styros. Or silver mica disease.

Mica caps are still gettable. Interesting the one I replaced recently was one of three that I have seen caused to snap off, in 60 years.

Otherwise much of a rare thing to see them failed. However, if I suspect them, or they are out of circuit the ones in the valve radios get leakage tested .500VDC. I have a few Styroseals in stock the big issue with them is the heat putting them in and a heatsink (Haemostat) between it and the heat is desirable.

I have never replaced one of those open clamped type pFcaps, nor there AWA hard rubber coated versions, for failing.
