Aghh another one bites the dust. As a kid I never liked 2TM but it's another part of my childhood memories disappearing.

I thought they already had a FM station. Are they going to have 2 now?

Robbert 2TM never had FM. The only FM station Tamworth had was 2YOU FM which changed its name because of politics. I was one of the founding members. 2TM will take over their old frequency.

2TM has a sister station with the ident FM92.9 and callsign 2TTT. Both broadcast out of Radio Centre on the New England Highway, next door to what was once NEN9.

Ah, I was thinking of the sister station. Didn't know about 2YOU.

Thanks for the info. So I take it that means that 2TM will leave AM completely, and lose a wide audience all over the east coast. Such is progress. Any idea of when that will happen?

That's the thing - there is nothing on their site about it. Carl, where did you hear this from?

Back in the days when I lived in Tamworth, my programme of choice for listening to my old radios was Hoedown, later called Country Music Radio, which was broadcast out of 2TM to 2MO, Gunnedah and 4WK, Warwick, QLD.

Hi Brad I heard it from a friend of mine up there. He actually is a member here but I don't recall his member name ( Tim Gaynor ) he runs his own shortwave station up there. Actually I was the one that got him started in radio. I will get him to comment here.

Yes Brad that's him. Him and I were pretty much in the know about Radio in Tamworth. I can say not to take too much notice of their web pages. There is a bit of politics there. Tim and I both worked at 2YOU FM in the early 80s and it was good times.

92.9 was never really thought of ( locally ) as a sister station to 2TM. It came about as a fairly extensive network and 2TM at the time was absorbed into the same conglomerate. Hence basically losing its soul. When I was a kid in Tamworth I hated not having a choice. We only had country music in Tamworth except for Saturday night with Kaycee Kasums American top 40. Hence having little choice I discovered valve radios had much better range and my dad made me a dipole antenna in our backyard. This is what got me started in radio. Even though I disliked country music at the time it actually became part of some very fond memories.

At the same time I heard the top 40 on 2UW.

FM92.9 was aimed at the younger crowd who didn't find comfort with listening to country music though because Nick Erby had such a large following in his day there was zero possibility of 2TM changing its format. In later years when it was swallowed up by 2SM and the so-called Super Radio Network, everything fell through the floor as far as I was concerned. Fortunately this happened after I shifted back to Sydney to live but one day after heading back to visit relatives I thought to myself, what the bloody hell has happened to this radio station?
