The Proclamation of King Charles III at the Houses of Parliament in Macquarie Street, Sydney.

It has been a long time since such pageantry was experienced at the doorsteps of the Parliament. There should be more of it.

The Proclamation ceremony at Parliament was followed by a 21 gun salute in the grounds of Government House.

Similar ceremonies were held in Camberra and the other state capitals.

After a long hiatus I've returned to comment on the latest happenings. The Queen's passing has left me with some sadness, because for as long as I've been alive; we've been a part of the Commonwealth; our currency bears her likeness; and she has had a steadfast and consistent reign.

So, with that said - Long live the king!

Whilst I've never been the greatest fan of Charles the man, there is much to respect about his ascendency to the throne. He's been able to watch his mother's great reign, and will no doubt have learned some valuable lessons along the way that will allow this transition to be smooth. I expect he will take to the role like a duck to water - and I look forward to seeing him re-establish the monarchy's relationship with the people.

For the Queen's cup of tea: loose leaf brew, strained pour, milk added after not before, and, surprisingly, no sugar.

I am not sure the Queen had a sweet tooth. I do know the Queen steered clear of a lot of other foods like garlic, prawns and crayfish.

Apparently she ate corn flakes for brekky.
