Each day at the end of the day I like to sit down and search for Radiograms etc etc .. Well there is only even a couple on Ebay these days ,But if I go to Gumtree there are pages and pages of them and its the same with Facebook, it also has a large number of Radiograms.
So it may be because if the fees on eBay as both FB and Gumtree are free.
but if your looking for those type of things as I do you should have a look, But Gumtree and FB are really on good for items you plan to pick up not sending money as we do with ebay as it has back up,, Some sellers on gumtree do pay pal though which has back up .. I've only ever picked the items up from FB and Gumtree. The other thing I dont like about Gumtree is the site searchers are so bad ! But I have bought some great old stuff there .

Ebay is a licence to print money. It'd be great to be a major shareholder and you would want for very little. The fees are a rort and whilst there'd be a lot of bills to pay to run a site like that, at the end of the day the fees do not reflect the service provided and when there is conflict between a buyer and a seller, the seller usually loses, regardless of how just the decision may have been.
As a result, I don't usually sell that much on Ebay these days and haven't done so for quite a few years and I don't have plans on resuming sales soon. I am a member of Gumtree but only for the purpose of satisfying curiosity. I've never bought or sold there, mainly because there has been nothing I was interested in at the times I was looking, and I agree with you that the search engine there is a bit touch and go. I am not a Facebook member so I miss out on that entirely. I've never been interested in social media and I don't have the time to devote to it.
To be honest, I still like attending flea markets where there is a possibility of vintage electronics for sale (farm clearing sales, etc) one of which I attended near Shepparton once and ran into Marc without realising it. We had a brief discussion about a valve tester that I won. It was a huge clearing sale and at one stage two auctioneers were banging their hammers so all lots could be sold before sunset. And, the readio auctions are good too, even though that does involve interstate travel. I don't mind it really, even though it is expensive. I own a big car and there's a two night stay in my preferred motel in Faulkner (northern suburb of Melbourne) which is close to Red Rooster so a decent meal can be had.
With the current situation with the coronavirus, however, such a trip is well off the cards for the time being.
I mentioned somewhere else here that I am hoping that the Sydney and Melbourne groups each stage a mega auction at the end of the year to make up for the lack of meetings and auctions during the virus outbreak - subject to the virus being under control, of course. If this event was to get a green light, let's hope that both are held on different weekends so people interested in both can attend them.

It was a good day. Because it went for so long though, I wish there was some tucker there. I had to take an interval and head out to the car. I was lucky that I had my camp fridge in the back packed with goodies and some lolly water.
From memory, I picked up two radios, the Palec valve tester (with Marc's handbook) and a box of valves. I was jealous of those who won the petrol bowsers and the vintage cars but I had a budget to stick to and no trailer to cart home larger stuff so that was that.
It is amazing what is still out there waiting for its owners to move into the afterlife. There's a few hundred clearing sales a year but there's tens of thousands of farms with their post-war cockies hoarding all manner of good stuff.
Robert, you didn't by any chance win the blue Astor Mickey? From memory it went for about four grand.
