At least we now own our national food 100%, thanks to the Bega Cheese Coy. which purchased Vegemite off Kraft.

Once upon a time the dairies dictated what the price of milk would be.
Now the supermarket chains dictate what a litre of milk will be and use it as a marketing tool against each other.
Sure the milk is cheaper now but many Victorian dairy farms have gone to the wall.
Ultimately the price of milk will go up and you will only be able to buy supermarket brand milk.
I refuse to buy supermarket brand anything and have instructed my wife to do the same.
It annoys me greatly that the supermarket brands are front and centre on the shelves and the original brand items are tucked away or gone altogether.

I have boycotted the two majors for this reason. At least Aldi treats their suppliers morally, or so I've heard.

In the process I save enough on groceries for a Europe holiday every 18 months....

Coles and Woolworths have taken dozens of products off the shelf permanently over the years. Some of them are family staples and have been purchased for decades before they vanished. This is the danger of large companies abusing market penetration to keep their shareholders smiling. When local providers can effectively be dominant enough to stop companies that are ten times the size from muscling in, there's a problem. I am all for Australian companies being mighty enough to count but not at the expense of providing customers with what they want.
