You're not in the big city now! It's rural NSW; The Murray River is freshwater: Sharks run businesses, Seals are hard to find, as we only get Bunyip's inland. Its a whole new world.

The age of colonisation is pretty much over, though China has decided not to keep this in mind

I suppose the money for all those 'strategic' container ports around the globe comes mainly from their state banks.
How is this a superior substitute for market-directed allocation of risk capital?
To the contrary, they could lose/waste vast wealth:
What if there is a severe, protracted contraction in global trade? (which there is!) What if this lasts 20 years? (which it will!)

Looking carefully at the bar charts of Chinese external infrastructure spending in the video, one sees consistent decline over the last decade - not surprising given that the Shanghai Composite Index is down 54% since the 2007 GFC!

As I mentioned a while back, China's home population is not wealthy enough to buy all of China's manufacturing output, so if the world boycotted Chinese goods China's economy would tank. History tells us that such situations usually end up with a declaration of war.

I also said that successful parasites don't kill their hosts.

In a discussion today, a guy who direct sells German tools to workshops said: "Imagine a Bunnings store without any Chinese products. All that would be left are the shelves, and they were probably made in China, too."

Boycotting chinese products has started as people see china as a bully , So there is turn away from Chinese products . The problem being is that often there are no other products to buy as china has the market ...but if we all stop buying their products it will lead to more jobs ,more independence and now is a good time to start ! we have a chance to be more independent

As an American, I'd be happy to see TMSC setting up shop in the USA. I have worked for several semiconductor companies, many "fabless", ie, we designed the ICs and sent out to TMSC to have them made. Having your own fab is expensive, and it becomes obsolete rather quickly and needs to be upgraded expensively. Only places like Intel can afford this, and the small companies figure it's better to have TMSC spend that money, as TMSC has many customers and thus spread that expense over many customers.

Once upon a time you had the choice to buy Chinese products for a lower price or well made products sourced locally or from Japan or USA etc.
Now most of those companies have been driven out of business so we no longer have the choice.
I will always try not to buy Chinese products where possible, particularly tools but as said if Bunnings took all the Chinese stuff off the shelves it would be empty.
It's a situation we have allowed to creep in over many years and impossible to reverse over night.
Let's hope Covid19 has taught us a hard but valuable lesson.

I miss all the Aussie stuff that used to come from Stanley Works at Balmain and Siddons Industries. Quality tools. Yes they cost a bit more but they also lasted a lot longer.

So I see the other super mobile processor chip, the 'Snapdragon' from California based Qualcomm, is fabricated by Samsung.

I miss the Aussie stuff that came from any local factory. We have put up with imported junk for so long that it's hard to recall the days when stores put such stuff on the lower shelves, if they stocked it at all.

When I was a kid, the label "Made in Japan" meant it was junk. People these days find that hard to believe, but there would be members here who know it. Until the Japs understood and got the quality control process in hand -- mainly thanks to the American QC guru William Edwards Deming -- they were going nowhere fast. The rest, as they say, is history.

About time someone woke up..

"We greatly underestimated the degree to which Beijing is ideologically and politically hostile to free nations. The whole world is waking up to that fact."

They have bought large amounts of our country. They only need their cheque book. Why have our governments allowed them to do so? Now there is talk about allowing the Chinese students back into our Universities WHY!!!
Again it is all about money, most will be relatives of their evil government officials why should we be educating them and allowing them to spy on us and bring their evil diseases into our country. I thought our borders were to remain closed!
