As per the disambiguation in the Wiki:
QUOTE: This article [Scentre Group] is about the operations of Westfield shopping centres in Australia and New Zealand since 2014. For the operations of Westfield shopping malls in North America and Europe from 2014–2018, see Westfield Corporation. For the company that merged with Westfield Corporation in 2018, see Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield. For the original company from which Scentre Group and Westfield Corporation were formed, see Westfield Group.

Wiki: "He [Steven Lowy] currently serves on the board of Scentre Group, the premier Australian shopping centre company, which has 40 shopping centres under management valued at A$43.3 billion"
Founder, Steven's dad, was also said to have been on the board, now they have "left the room", where are they? (especially given that SCG Market Cap is now down to $8bn!)

So now, courtesy of leaked emails between NSW Health and the ship's senior doctor, we are getting to the truth behind this debacle:
QUOTE: NSW Health allowed passengers from the Ruby Princess to disembark in Sydney despite knowing that test results, which would prove whether or not coronavirus was present among sick passengers, would be available within hours.
Seven passengers have now died and more than 600 passengers have tested positive for coronavirus after infected passengers were allowed to leave the Ruby Princess in Sydney. The ship is now the biggest source of coronavirus infection in Australia.
NSW Health replied that afternoon saying: "The NSW Health expert panel has assessed the Ruby Princess as NOT requiring on board health assessment in Sydney."
NSW Health asked for the 15 samples taken on board to be sent to its labs for COVID-19 testing.
"You are free to disembark tomorrow ... I will let you know when the results are received - likely tomorrow afternoon," NSW Health replied.

Of course now NSW needs to ban its "Duck" season so they have nowhere to run & nowhere to hide.
If this was ordinary you & me & we did something as irresponsible as this we would be pilloried, beaten to death by the media and face criminal charges. This body of unknown drips under pressure, should on face value be charged under criminal law & if Doctors: Deregistered, or at minimum suspended immediately.
Its on par with lighting a killer bushfire.

To be honest I doubt we'll know the real truth surrounding this issue and the SMH (or any Nine Network newspaper) would be the last source I'd believe when it comes to finding out the truth. Yes, if NSW Health did let the passengers out before test results were known then it was a big mistake. There's still the issue of the captain of the ship misleading the NSW Government on the issue of whether or not he was aware of passengers having the virus. Each ship has doctors on board and they are usually doctors with a wide range of experience in the sorts of medical issues that would confront a passenger - such as having flu-like symptoms, food poisoning and the like.
Well, we got what we could ultimately expect - both sides trying to cover their tracks.

QUOTE: Beijing/Wuhan: China on Saturday mourned the thousands of "martyrs" who have died in the new coronavirus outbreak, flying the national flag at half-mast throughout the country and suspending all forms of entertainment.
When I went to school, martyr meant a person who is killed because of their beliefs or principles. I guess in Chinese martyr means someone who is killed by a virus courtesy of their government's duplicity.

Guy I knew in Perth used to tell me that WA stands for Wait Awhile. Seems he is right:
QUOTE: WA will implement a hard border closure at 11.59pm [today, 5 April], applying to everyone including locals who are interstate or overseas and must submit an exemption form for access.
Something about closing the barn door comes to mind.

that Sydney corona ship!
With, to date, 11 of the 35 deaths in Oz being people who travelled on the Ruby Princess my guess is that ship will be getting a name change after this. The NSW Homicide Squad has been tasked with getting to the bottom of who knew what and when about the situation on board before NSW Health gave the all clear to disembark.
(As an aside, it's always amused me that the NSW Minister for Health is named Hazzard.)

Another big health hazard is the billions-of-litres-of-Diesel these monster ships burn, and resultant carcinogenic pollution when docked (in Sydney)
Ship Spec:
"4 x V12 Wartsila Common Rail Diesel Generators, 2 x Inline 8 Wartsila Common Rail Diesel Generators"
"On average, a large cruise ship can use up to 250 tons of fuel per day, which is around 80,000 gallons." (~$160,000 fuel burn per day)

I always laugh at the network 7 news intro in Sydney.
Invariably showing a Sydney Harbour scene, bridge over there, opera thing over here, and in the background a cruise ship moored at the wharf with a plume of smoke bending at right angles and wafting straight over the residential area!
Net 7 should update the wall paper and delete any virus boat getting us both ways, bat virus plus cancer!!!
Fred.

To be honest, I think we have more to worry about from the Harbour's shark population. Think back to when Sydney was hive of radio and television factories, car assembly lines, asbestos factories, power stations, metal manufacturers, petro-chemical manufacturers, explosives manufacturers, etc and we were all burning super petrol in our cars at the same time, and the life expectancy of people was increasing at the same rate as it does today.
All these chemicals we breathe in probably save us from as many maladies as they cause.

Actually the Wartsila engines are very efficient. Pollution regulations are changing and the two stroke engines in them and locomotives are disappearing.
If you want to see diesel smoke, check out some of the ageing ALCo's Indian rail has.

These are apparently their own engines and have that unique chug, chug, as it does sound like they are a slow revving 4 Strokes.
