Those restrictions for 2 items etc etc.
People got caught here going out to their car after buying the 2 items and then changed clothes and went back into the shops to buy another 2 !
How do their minds work ?

Unfortunately times like these bring out the very worst in some people.
There's sure to be a spike in crime with all of this also.
With the current trend in casualising the work force there are going to be a lot of people out of work.
The financial cost of this will long outlast the virus.

There will be a big financial hit but looking at it in a positive note - the last recession that we had, we bounced out of it, ran into a string of annual tax cuts, the jobless rate fell to new lows and we ended up hosting the Olympics. There's nothing this country can't do but the right people have to be in charge and we all have to keep a shoulder to the wheel.
As history will show many times, when countries go broke they usually go to war. Let's hope that cool heads prevail around the world and we all come out of it better than we went in.

Yes I think there will be some positives that will come out of this.
One of the main ones will be far more funding for research into immunisation against new viruses.
I read somewhere that a vaccine against Sars was nearing completion but the funding was cut when the virus abated.
Lets hope the same mistake is not made this time.

The only link to Menzies is that we have set out to destroy everything he created. To become third world.
The nutters have now turned to buying chooks: They may fall fowl doing that, especially with Roosters at dawn.
The money issue is only a short term aberration. This virus is largely designed to be oldie specific. The biggest burden on all economies is retirees & Grannys living a long time. So if you have a virus that can bump us all off; The economy will recover over night & the government will own everything via loans.
Currently we base our welfare system on combined elements of Aldous Huxley's "Brave New World"; Hitler's "Mein Kampf" and a couple of others who wrote on social engineering.
Indeed scary times: That can only get more frightening.

I passed a vintage Mercedes today, built on an Australian assembly line decades ago - blinker stalk on the right hand side of the steering column (where it bloody well should be!) and still going strong after all these years. Only one thing missing - all the badges that owners of these cars once loaded up the big grilles with.
Whilst they were not run at the pace of the assembly lines of Holden, Ford and Toyota, most young people would be quite surprised at the brands that did once have local assembly operations in Australia. Last weekend I passed a fleet of Valiants on the Hume Motorway - a mix of Slant Sixes and Hemi Pacers - all cars in pristine condition. Even now, it was easy to remember that the humble Valiant was once made by the once-third placed manufacturer in Australia - Chrysler. The same product type on offer - plenty of big sixes and V8s on offer.
All the factories are long gone. Sadly, the government can only offer an increase in the dole, as part of a prop-up package to stave off a lengthy recession. Is there anyone out there brave enough to think that globalisation is good?

We had AP5-2W- 43 a Station Wagon Pretty much all of them were 4W . When I scored a factory manual for it it became even more obvious that it was a re-badged Dodge.
The tail lights were genuine Chrysler parts bearing CDPD and different from the Australian ones. The alternator was a Chrysler one, not Email every bolt in it was CDPD and they forgot to change the headlights.
Later investigation seems to indicate it was one of only 145 and the oil spec was different as the running gear was not Borg Warner, it was Rockwell.
It was sold to a collector so may still exist?
It looks like this one was the same as my MKII Zephyr ute. It was like many MF tractors, the body was pressed by Butlers & sent out as panels & the AP5 pressed in USA & sent here for assembly training?

Marc,
I had immaculate Ap6 wagon fully imported from Canada.
It was silver grey with the blue seats ,slant 6 , low mile car , I had it for years and years .
It had white walls on it .
But years ago I went through a divorce and everything was sold off , the guy paid me 14 k for and about 2 years ago I saw it down on the northen beaches, I met the guy who owned it the. Car had been sold again .
I asked what he paid for it 30k.
The car was still as new.
Mine had a record player in it that played 45s .
Wow I wish I had never lost that car.
I've owned few classic cars , but now they are all out of reach for me.
I owned a 1958 Buchanan cobra which only 7 were made and mine was number 6. Haha now I own a 2000 model Toyota Ute !
Reliable as the day is long though!

The MKII Zephyr being a Ute tends to be the Farm's tow motor and 2nd shopping trolley, as its the only road vehicle with a tow bar. I am baby sitting an A4 but its got no insurance at the moment so its parked as far as I am concerned. Despite being eligible for red plates; "Z" still has its original plates.
"Z" did get a shopping trolley run Friday to take a tractor tyre to the other side of Benalla. Brought it back via the hills to ensure the bores, don't develop ridges. Apparently the aged but not cracked tyre is still worth money. Its mate split the side wall & that allows them to puncture the tube, or have something puncture it: Only got 50 years out of it.
That tractor has proven expensive this year. I over hauled the engine in May 1985 & it decided to blow the head gasket November, so that initiated the demise of several parts and the overhaul of the cylinder head and kept me amused for a few hours, but still a few hundred bucks for parts so add to that $1380 for tyres & its actually registered.as well.

My 1st car was a 1967 VW Kombi split window.
They sell for 50K now for a good one.
Unfortunately I rolled it.
VW's of the era were somewhat of a death trap.
I was lucky to get out of it unscathed.
My next car was a 1969 Toyota Crown which are also collectable now.
It had three on the tree with electric overdrive.
It was a very comfortable if not quick vehicle.
