It's typical of the ABC to question the validity of capitalism, whilst their mates in the CCP rely on it for China's economic growth.
This isn't to suggest that the West has been perfect. 'Big Money' in all Western nations has been sucked in by the lure of cheap Chinese labour, although China is heading at Mach 2 towards the same issue that affected Japan about ten years ago - cheap labour isn't perpetual. Everyone has been getting wage rises in China for the last five years or so, so the advantage that China has had for twenty years is fading away.
1/3 of all manufactured goods currently comes out of China. If the West completely abaondoned China there would be war. When countries go broke they tend to fight for survival. So I don't support just completely abandoning China, especially since our primary industries depend on China's secondary industries to consume raw materials however if the West didn't resume at least some self-sufficiency in secondary industries then it is losing a big opportunity, given the wake up call we've received due to the Coronavirus and China's lies and deceit that came coupled with the spread of the virus.
The RAN and USN sailed four warships through the Taiwan Strait last week. So China has many issues on its plate at the moment and they are probably keeping an eye on what is going on inside North Korea too.

Yes they are Threatening us again! This time they say they will stop importing our products, Due to Dutton and the Australian Government wanting an investigation into where Coronavirs started from. , Which may have been a Lab in china,,, Well tell them to get stuffed !,If they have nothing to hide then they would not be threatening us,,, Bullies! The less we have to do with them the better . I also see the UK Government also spent Millions on masks and test kits that all had to be returned to China !!! They have taken over the south seas and built military sites on the islands after they promised the world this would never happen! Its time the governments of the world wake-up. My feeling is the virus may have come from a Lab, I also read in the news that the Virus is causing health issues with young people that have recovered from it , EG bleeding brains, neurological issues including confusion, headaches, Cell damage. strokes, So why not have an investigation into where it started from ..... why ? because of money and sanctions that would be put into place if it came from a Lab , Chinese Party is just full of lies cover ups .....

Interesting article in today's SMH by Peter Hartcher: https://www.smh.com.au/national/china-s-man-in-canberra-has-unmasked-the-regime-s-true-face-20200427-p54nhj.html
His [Nov, 2019] Quarterly Essay, Red Flag is behind a paywall, but I'm probably going to pay to read it, although it looks like I'll need to fork out for a subscription.
QUOTE: Red Flag: Waking Up to China’s Challenge
China has become a key nation for Australia’s future – for our security, economy and identity. But what are China’s intentions when it comes to Australia?
In this gripping account, Peter Hartcher shows how Beijing stepped up its campaign for influence, over hearts and minds, mineral and agricultural resources, media outlets and sea lanes. Reactions so far have included panic, xenophobia and all-the-way-with-the-USA, but the challenge now is to think hard about the national interest and respond with wisdom to a changed world.
This urgent, authoritative essay blends reporting and analysis, and covers the local scene as well as the larger geopolitical picture. It casts fresh light on Beijing’s plans and actions, and outlines a way forward.
“Australia and China have got rich together. For Australia, that is quite enough. But China’s government wants more. As much power and influence over Australia as it can possibly get, using fair means or foul. But ... what Beijing can get is limited not only by China’s abilities, but also by Australia’s will. In each case where Chinese officials or agents attempted to intrude, they met Australian resistance. And failed. For all its power, China is neither all-powerful nor irresistible. Australia can shape its engagement with Beijing.” -- Peter Hartcher, Red Flag

China is gravely mistaken thinking that this dispute will go in their favour if they launched a boycott. Yes, at the moment our exporters do depend largely on China being a customer. However there was a time when we exported very little agricultural and mining products to China and there was also a time when we exported more manufactured goods to China than products or services from primary or tertiary industries.
China is forgetting that India is rising as a country with cheap labour. They will one day do to China what China has done to Japan and take over as a large source of cheap labour because China's average wage is going up and China can keep deliberately devaluing its currency only for so long.
Anyone thinking that China blocking our trade would not meet with a reciprocal arrangement is kidding themselves. Yes, it would be disruptive and yes, other factories around the world would need to be the source of some of the goods that come from China but nothing is impossible. Every time our government does something that is in our interest, or the interest of the region we live in, it seems to upset China and they carry on with this tiresome moaning, groaning and thinly-veiled threats.
It is time to call their bluff. Australia exports the best quality food and mining products to China and in return we largely soak up their poorly manufactured garbage, much of which ends up on council cleanup piles after a few years, even if that long. Tellies, TV stands, pedestal fans, the latest BS gym equipment and the like. There was a time when council cleanup piles were a good source of radios and valves!
Wouldn't it be great if China was still a nation of peasant farmers. Australia needs to go after trade with more countries and stop relying on this beligerent communist relic.
Pete: In relation to your original post, I've had a blood blister on the ball of my right foot for a few days and the pain it has caused has been getting steadily worse. A nurse at work volunteered to cut it open today but when she discovered that I was a diabetic she backed off, in case the 'surgery' would cause an infection. No worries with me, as I wanted to do the job myself anyway.
At morning tea time, I got some alco-wipes, a square bandaid and a fresh Stanley knife blade, which I cleaned with one of the alco-wipes and then went to work. As it turned out, the operation was a success. Out came the blood and then out came an equal amount of pus. So it was infected anyway and now that all that cacky juice is out, the foot feels fine and is on the mend.

Time for China to grow up, but will it ever happen?
Ask 'Twiggy' Forrest. Apparently he's their government's main stooge here.

Pete: Rudd speaks in Mandarin. Cantonese is a minority dialect, mainly spoken in Hong Kong.
