Oh Canberra is very much set up for Bikes. Its a different attitude towards, bikes,Time, work than the other cities. When I ran my Furniture and Collectables business I would often stay in Canberra 2 days per week so I got to see how it all works there towards bikes etc etc . People who have not spent time in Canberra mostly don't like it there, But speak to anyone who lives there and they love it .. Mind you its a bit like Albury though , Freezing in the winter and stinking hot in the summer. Canberra use to be the best city in Australia for Garage sales ! On a Saturday it was common to have 60 -80 Garage sales on and the quality of the old items was very good . This is because during the 60s people there had good jobs and it was a modern city and full of Midcentury items . I have a TV set I bought there years ago , Its like new ! The lady bought it in 1962 and kept a cover over it when not being use for all those years until I came along and bought it off her . But I pulled amazing amounts of Rare items out of Canberra years ago .
Pete

RE #279 and that dipstick in the footage.
Unfortunately if that video makes the national news all you will see is a cut and pasted version of 5 seconds where the security plods get tired of talking to a idiot and floor him. The studio overdub will be a hysterical "news presenter" claiming yet another clear instance of police brutality in (name your state), Government lost control, citizens rights blah blah blah............................Thank the Lord he did not have a suntan!!!!!!!!!!!
Most TV news you see is either re-created after the event with actors or cleverly cutnpaste original footage to show whatever angle the TV people want to market. Trust me I have been involved personally in two major news incidents and was gob smacked with what appeared on the tube that night.
No, I will not tell you what they were both were too disturbing.
Most stuff you see on the news is just like those "reality" shows with tradesmen and pouting blondes, all re- created BS to script.
Fred.

Interviews are usually edited, sometimes notoriously, which is why smart people have a friend video the entire interview independently to keep the bastards honest, as Don Chipp would have said.

QUOTE: Four out of 15 adults admitted to hospital in the United States in recent months for ingesting an alcohol-based hand sanitiser died and three were left visually impaired, according to a new report from the nation’s health protection agency.
The paper, published by the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention on Wednesday, focused on cases of serious adverse health events or death “associated with swallowing alcohol-based hand sanitisers” containing methanol in two southwestern states between May and June this year.

One would love to know what the hell is in that stuff? Blindness is associated with "wood alcohol" which is a crude methanol (often derived from wood).
Methylated spirits is denatured ethanol usually with "Bitrex in it. Bitrex is number one for sour taste. There were a couple of dedicated Alco's where I worked. I had to keep an eye on the Lab's ethanol, which we recovered (what we could) by fractionating. After it had been used as a solvent in some tests.
One showed true dedication by joining something like the phosphate mob on Christmas Island: Reason no excise on booze. My concern was his (chemist, in production area) statement that if you wanted to get drunk quickly, absolute ethanol on ice was the go. What I recovered using fractionating, was absolutely pure ethanol, so there was no risk of there being methanol in it to send you blind.
They're out there.

It's stated in the quote I gave above: “associated with swallowing alcohol-based hand sanitisers” containing methanol

I reckon the trick is, if it doesn't say "Enjoy responsibly" in the ad, don't drink it.
This story reminds me of the picture, Sunday, too far away, where the shearers cook would get drunk on lemon essence.
