China is one of few countries that is larger than Australia in land area. Surely they'd be able to manage making toilet paper somewhere. It'd be great if Australia was exporting toilet paper though it's like everything else we export, we should put ourselves first and exports via Ebay, except in times of plenty, should be banned.

As I understand it, the issue was that everything in the Hubai province was closed and its roughly 60 million occupants were essentially locked in. I'm told that some roads in and out were dynamited to enforce travel restrictions.

I went to Woolworths at Crows Nest this arvo to grab some stuff for tea tonight and guess what - I walked past the shelves photographed in the original post and the same applied - no bogrolls.

That tells me it's the crowd from Chinawood area panic buying , because here in Albury loo paper is in abundance ! No panic buying.
But in Melbourne it's the same as Sydney too.

They were in and around the supermarkets at Chatswood Chase and the neighbouring Westfield Chatswood for the last few nights just grabbing what they could and today they did Crows Next and probably Northbridge too.

They all want sectioning but as I mentioned the other day, the government closed all the looney bins years ago so there's no place to lock them up.

It may as simple as this, If in their old country they experience shortages of essentials than they think the same will happen in this country.
Perhaps that's the thinking behind it.
I knew a lady when I was a boy who lived through the 1930s depression and in the 70s when I was a young boy she was still stockpiling food in the garage stacked to the roof of Can food.
I can't think of any other reason for their thinking

Pete

Check this out. Another complete fool.

https://www.msn.com/en-au/news/sydney/do-you-know-what-you-ve-done-to-australia-tradies-lash-out-at-toilet-paper-hoarders-after-discovering-a-huge-stockpile-behind-a-suburban-home-before-helping-themselves-to-the-stash...

Whilst I certainly don't condone trespassing or theft, the reaction is in some way understandable.

From the site: Boys bring your truck and dogs - this stupid b---- is taking everything off the shelves and hiding it in her garage.

Never mind a covid-19 vaccine. What's needed more urgently is a cure for toilet paper mania.

Unbelievable!
Particularly where the rolls seem to be in a pile outside in the weather!
The IP rating of the packaging is not meant for that.
The rolls will be picking up moisture as we speak and un-usable.

As the person doing the stockpiling, no, not a shop keeper, anyone who does that knows about storage and spoilage.
Just a stupid person , who should be deported or sent to Callum park, oh we closed that down and let them all loose on the street, sorry, forgot about that.

Anybody for soggy dunny rolls? maybe sell them as "covoid free, pre soaked for your protection".
Actually she is a eBay re-seller that got the chop and cannot sell to anybody.
Those rolls are now past their use-by date and unable to be sold.
So Solly, no plofit for sroggy lunny loles.
The on sellers on eBay are now fully stocked and selling for less than $1 a roll down to 50c.

The best use for those will be for streamers for the next Chinese New Year celbrations!

Fred.

Update on the stolen dunny rolls:-

It turns out that the women who had hundreds of rolls of dunny paper stolen from a stockpile that overflowed onto crown land (she ran out of room in her garage and backyard) was imported by her from China to sell exclusively in her shop.

https://www.msn.com/en-au/news/australia/inside-story-of-what-drove-outraged-tradies-to-grab-a-stash-of-loo-roll-and-offer-it-for-free...

So those stealing it are well out of order. That said, she either should have kept the rolls on her own lot or purchased less.

On another note, here is a photo of the same shelves attached to the post that opened this thread. Today, there is more stock than yesterday but it is only at 50% and the dominant brand isn't a regular one.

Bogrolls go in panic buy - again

Note that some bonehead at Woolworths has put the remaining stock on special. This won't discourage the panic buying all that much, I don't think.

An irony with the local W some years ago; Some dork screwed up & they ended up with seven pallets of trots tickets & these were stacked high on several gondola's: Looked hilarious and of course I just had to ask if they were expecting an outbreak of dysentery.

Do also love the use of a bear on toilet paper. Rather synonymous with a bare bum.

Maybe Melbourne can use it to celebrate reaping the reward for their chairman putting politics before common sense and pandering to those he thinks might vote for him.

I should point out that the teddy toilet paper is made in China. Why is Woolworths not buying off our factories? Production doesn't come to a grinding halt just because there's a panic buy.

What a BS story!

If Ms Deng was any sort of retailer, she would have the rolls in a proper storage area so it cannot deteriorate.
That is what you do with excess bulk stock. Then you plan a sales promotion to get rid of the stuff, 2 for 1, big discount or even give it away!

Try this one: she is an auction style reseller who tried to game the market and got caught with a mound of stock that is now worthless.
Why would it be laying around spilling over the fence into the street?
Its spoilt worthless and a loss and she wont even pay for someone to cart it away.

I live in the real world, not in a media driven fairy story land.

Fred.

I agree, Fred. I am not sure whether she is just clueless on stock management or she was trying to bait someone to start thieving. Either way, it doesn't look good for her or her business.

The same shelves were checked again this arvo. Some more Sorbent and Quilton has been put in place with buying restrictions though I get the impression that as the Melbourne second wave gets worse, peoples' cunning will get worse to match and they'll be sending in cousins, aunties and uncles to each supermarket they can get to to each get their quota. Time will tell.

The NSW-VIC border remains open but NSW Police have been asked to target V-reg cars and new regulations today allow for a six month gaol term and a fine of $11,000 for those living in the so-called Melbourne hot spots crossing into NSW during the school holidays.

Just on two weeks ago I narrowly dodged the second wave. I went to Bendigo to pick up a radio I won on Ebay then hit Ballarat for lunch and a look at a couple of antique shops. By around 3PM it was time to come home and the best way of doing that was via Melbourne. I didn't get out of the car between Ballarat and Albury so I managed to miss the bug.

It's not a good time for buying radios because most of those that are for sale are in Victoria.
