I'm emailing on behalf of a friend who is looking for any information and circuit for an AWA 457MA. He has checked- AORMS - Kevin Chant - Radio Museum - Missed circuits (HRSA)

Thanks

Rudy

This is probably close enough to be useful. Click twice on the schematic to launch the download script:

I'll pass on your comment, I'm sure he would have seen that on RM as well and probably didn't consider it close enough.

There is no such model as a 457MA. There is a 457P, which is a 4 valve battery portable.

The MA suffix indicates a mains powered mantel & P is for portable. AWA do not share model designations for different types of radios.

AWA was but one that did a lot of "Badge engineering" & assembly for others EMMCO was another etc.

It would not be at all unusual to find an AWA set, RCA, Hotpoint, Bandmaster etc. made by them with the same circuit as a Badged AWA set. That sort of thing still goes on.

Is it perhaps a battery mantle set based on the 457 portable?

It would be useful to find out what valves are in it? Westinghouse made a 457 and 457M. Westinghouse + GE = RCA

They are both 467MA's. The figure 6 with AWA model designations can often be mistook for 5. The font is blockish and can either fade or smudge. If you Google 457MA, you'll see many people have made this mistake. Here is an example:

The eBay listing that is referenced is currently for sale by me. To me it clearly says model 457MA. I’ve got no idea whether that’s right or wrong but that is what it says. There is clearly a gap in the bottom circle & it is straight across the top which is how a 5 is written. If that doesn’t match up with peoples beliefs that’s cool what more can I say other than ‘ok’ lol

Perhaps a very sharp photo of the numbers, is now in order, by all parties?

Distorted, missing and factory sets made up of two versions, are not uncommon. I have even had an AWA "special" based on a current model (at the time) which shared the same parts list, but had an added 6A6 PP amp. changed IF frequency and was changed from back bias to conventional bias.

Valve line of these sets up, could be included?
