Well guys this was a successful meeting with a heap of beautiful old sets on sale. I got a white Jelly Mould and a black plum pudding ( the wife is still waiting on dessert lol) and a box of about 40 valves and three other restos. I have sent pics to Brad.

The plum pudding is brown.
I was hoping it was black though, it'd be a very rare set if it was.
Nice radios. I need to put up photos of the three I won at the Radiofest auction.

Yeah I am colour blind to a degree so sometimes brown looks black to me but I can see it there. Its a nice set , the only problem I can see is it needs the 3 core power cord. I think I did ok with the Jelly Mould though and its a really strong performer. The Jelly Mould cost me 360 which is top dollar but not over the top and the Plum Pudding was 75 which I consider a very good price.

Both good prices. On the radios I recently got was a brown Fret & Foot for $370.00, an AWA 45E for $170.00 and a Healing Minor (401E) in dark green for $975.00. All sets are complete and cabinets in very good order. I am looking forward to getting them all going. I only wish I had the time to do it right now.
The gobsmacker was the 45E - a truly classic console going for such a low price. Whilst I am happy that I acquired such a great radio for a bargain price I cannot help thinking that consoles are so underdone these days and I feel for people who are trying to shift them at what they are worth from a historical point of view.
It proves my point, highlighted elsewhere, that most people just don't have the room for them.

Couple of nice looking sets.
Some of those two core "figure eight" cables had a bad habit of doing what most of that rubber did: Go brittle & flake off. Its the bit of it that you can't see that is the worry. I did have one come in "just working" & I could not believe that it had not gone short or killed whoever tried to unplug it.
I normally use cable glands on a lot of those, with the pointy end to the inside. If you use a cloth covered cable (which are made pre-fab with plug) I normally use a bit of shrink tube over the top of the cable where it goes through the gland. A zip tie behind the gland doubly ensures that it will not pull. Leave the rubber washer off.
If you dare use a heat gun on the cloth beware of the temp.

I have sent some more photos for this. You will notice I have a european Philips fixer upper. Apparently it works but I would never have tried to test it with the cord the way it is insulation tape joining two completely different cords just doesnt do it for me.
