Recently I mentioned elsewhere that soon the host server for this website would be replaced. This is still in the pipeline and will be done over the coming 4-8 weeks.

As part of a general renewal of equipment a new uninterruptible power supply (UPS) was installed this afternoon. For the benefit of those not familiar with such machinery, this device keeps the servers and modem powered up in the event of a loss of the municipal electricity supply. At the time the web server is replaced the UPS will undergo a real time stress test - where the power will be turned off and the UPS batteries allowed to completely drain until everything shuts down. This will give an indication of how well everything is working and the time the UPS stays up for before a complete shutdown occurs.

Down the track I do have plans on doing something about the ad-hoc connection dropouts. I realise this is a pain and once detected, there is equipment in place to permit a remote restart of the modem however apart from that I am not currently in a position to further improve things. A permanent solution is more likely early in 2017 when the host servers will be shifted to a new location and thus have different and hopefully better connections to the Internet.
