All of the work outlined below has been completed.

The servers that support this website are due to be shifted to a new location on Tuesday, 24th June or Wednesday 25th June. There will be times when you will not be able to access the forums or even the whole site. Don't worry, we aren't going to disappear and we'll definitely be back as quickly as possible.

Changes to the site's domain settings will also need to be made. At times during the move and the transition period for the redelegation of the site's domain name you may bump into a version of this website that has the forums disabled.

Well done, Brad. The move seems to have gone very smoothly.
Is the Forum on the same hardware?

Yep, the very same. When it came time to do the shift yesterday I booted up an older server and switched them over. This is pretty much how things transpired:-

1. Apply for new link to the Internet and make sure it is working.
2. Warn everyone about the big move.
3. Start old server and update files and database on it. (I had to replace the power supply first, of all things. How something can break when power isn't applied has got me beat)
4. Disable forums and registration page to try and stop a situation where postings get lost.
5. Switch traffic from current server to old one.
6. Perform software updates on new server so it doesn't have to be done after the move and then shut it down.
7. Transport equipment from old address to new one.
8. Set equipment up and carry out reprogramming of domain names and port forwarding.
9. Redelegate domains to new connections on the registrar's website.
10. Wait patiently for domain names to propagate on the DNS. This used to take between 1 and 2 days but can happen almost instantly in many cases these days. For those on ISPs with crappy name servers it can take a bit longer.
11. Make sure the old server can no longer be reached before shutting it down.
12. Shut down old server, connection equipment and have the connection terminated at the ISP.

Job done.

Thing is, this move is somewhat temporary. I am doing it all again in the second half of the year. Perplexed

Brad.
Is the email up and running after the move?
I've tried to send a email and attachment twice and it has bounced both time. I got this message when the email bounced:

message size 7209256 exceeds size limit 5120000 of server vintage-radio.com.au[123.243.19.223]

Message size is normally unlimited for my account. I will check it tomorrow (Thursday) and report any findings/changes.

The mail server itself is working. It was the first thing to be checked as I need it for work.

I've just checked my account on the mail server. There is no limit on what the account can receive.

If you are using Outlook, can you please send me the reply e-mail you got as an attachment and I will check the message headers - it'll help trace the cause of the 'bounce'.

Brad
I am having trouble sending an email with photo to you, using Windows Live Email, Win7 and get this error:
Server error 554
Connection refused 110.147.170.*** listed on Exploits Block List.
Is this related to the earlier posts re email problems.

G'day Harold,

My mail server uses three separate blacklist operators to scan IP addresses for any reports against them for advertising, flooding, mass-messaging, etc, and will then block any e-mail coming from that IP address.

As you can obviously be trusted I will add your subnet to the server's whitelist which should stop this happening again.

I've also masked part of your IP address for the safety of your own connection. (Lots of script kiddies out there want to do bad things)

UPDATE: Your message should come through now - settings are updated. Smile

Hi Brad
Just tried to send the email without success, the same error message comes up. I'll try my alternate email address to see if it works.
Harold

Edit: seems to have gone OK via Yahoo
