When I developed the Video Commander Video On Demand system for schools back in 1977, I used IR remote controls from Pye as the controlling device, with just the button caps changed to perform VCR transport control..

After the Marrickville factory closed, I bought the surplus stock of these remotes, and when these ran out I sourced the plastic mouldings from the Pye-owned tools (we bought the tooling, which would otherwise have been discarded, for $1 ) from a factory in Japan. We then became a supplier to Philips Service for spare remotes!

We made many thousands of these, as well as many more using our own PCB and I think I might still have a few.

I do have hundreds of our later version of this remote that is still compatible with the T30 and T34 remote TVs.

The remote only has the Sydney and Wollongong channels, although I guess the Sydney channels would have been used in some other capital cities.

They were supplied with replaceable button caps, matching those on the TV with which they were interchangeable

This arrangement suited us just fine for Video Commander use.
The channel button caps became

FN1 FN2 Pause Frame

REW STOP PLAY FFWD

The other keys were blanked out.

Yes that's correct.

It was used with all Pye remote control TVs. Later versions were all black.

Also used in early Video Commander systems. There is a story there!!
