Hmmm, your chassis must have been an early build.

Not all polyester caps are created equal. For anything around the boost and hor linearity, because of the amount of current they are handling, you need foil wound caps, not MKT or metallised polyester. You "dud" might have been OK in another place.

The foil caps would generally be the axial tubular types, rather than the flattened radials like the greencaps?

Yes, but not necessarily! I have some excellent large "greencaps" that are ex-Pye close-down stock. They are designed to handle amps, did so in Pye CTV hor deflection and were never known to fail, ever.

Go for a part that's physically large for its capacitance and voltage. Treat with suspicion anything that's less than half the size of the part it's replacing - I'm referring to original parts dating from late - mid 1950's and later here.

If the original is a 630v cap, replace it with a 1kV or higher part. That usually keeps you out of trouble.
