A choke is the superior filter but has to be the right DC resistance & if there is nothing going in a can just put there for aesthetics it might fit in it?

The DC resistance of a speaker transformer has little to do with it. It's all about ratio's & Impedance. & if you check the DC resistance of the primary of some power transformers. you would think them to present as near to a short.

Thank you all again for your comments . Tony, the owner was well pleased with the result when I returned it to him yesterday.
Thank you Robbert Fred and Dave for your comments . Marc I did not have a suitable choke and used what Ian and I think you suggested an 1.5k 15 watt resistor of the chassis mount type with two screw holes for mounting . The box is not doing a lot it is there for completeness however I mounted the Hi Watt resistor externally on the front edge of the box , so the box is acting as a heatsink for the resistor..
