Well I finally got the opportunity to get this little holy grail. Restored by none other than John McIlwaine. Hopefully my wife will love it as much as I will.

Nice old radio though.

I have one of these and also the GE rebadged version. Both are in good cosmetic condition, especially for the age of these radios - 87 years I think - but both still need their day on the workbench.
The R24 features in an article on the Sydney Radio Collector.

It's hard to imagine that we are on the doorstep of 100 years of radio broadcasting in Australia.

Yes I acknowledge the damage at the top right hand corner. A good friend of mine is going to repair the cabinet for me which I am grateful for. I actually do not have this set yet as its being sent to my friend first . However the chassis has been electrically restored .
I will send better photos when it arrives.
I bought this from the ACT HRSA online auction which has some really nice sets on it. If any of you are HRSA members and want to participate please email me ( its unhidden ) and I will send you a link. In fact I might send it to Brad now.
Yes I love the significance of this set.

Based on experience, not killjoy, the length of time left not run and being unfamiliar, with any set does call for a need to inspect it: Things happen. I tend to hook the reformer to "B" and build up the filter caps before powering these restored sets, left not powered for a while.

Yes Marc I agree even though this set has been restored by John McIlwaine himself ( to whom I trust ) his own words ( on the phone ) were these items are over 80 years old and one day they work and the next it wont. All valves in this set are tested at 100%

I have a collector I do repairs for. Classic: He was told never, ever to power a radio meeting the above criteria. So he's bought this radio; deceased estate, "daddy restored it so its wonderful, Yeh!
So they powered it: In a blaze of glory #80 disintegrated internally and a cap went with it; so they put another #80 in it & heated the plates to red hot.
They walk among us.

My Rule is this. If you know and trust the restorer then its ok. If you dont then it doesnt work thats it. Check it.

Hi Carl. I also have this model but with a broken dial pointer. Do you know of anyone who has reproduced the bakelite dial pointer on the Radiolette 24?

Samt
I believe Michael Raanan may have made some. If not I do have a local fellow here that makes parts for me.
I am having the cabinet properly restored and am about to send photos to Brad.

More photos sent. This cabinet is really coming up a treat plus the chassis just arrived in the mail from John McIlwaine. Talk about pristine.

Well people the cabinet on this little set is finished. I think the output transformer needs replacing but its acceptable at this moment.
The cabinet work is first class.
