Listening about there are a few stations with music, now hearing 2SE Shoalhaven with only minimal fading from time to time.

2LT Lithgow has music although in the morning nothing but ranting shock jocks.

As for sports stations they are all over the place, one after the other. Would never listen to the droning commentaries, worse than torture.

ranting shock jocks

What a stupid term that is. I have to wonder who they imagine they are shocking.

Would never listen to the droning commentaries, worse than torture.

As the ditty used to go "The game is not the same without McGilvray". With the exception of Jim Maxwell, I can't stand today's bunch of so-called commentators.

2CH is still pumping out the music for now. I guess the changeover will be a few months away yet.

The softening up is starting..
We have 2CH on all day.
Every now and then they run an ad for SEN, "they are off at Randwick!" "get your bets on" style of stuff.
Some of the news breaks contain a smidgen more sports stuff than they used to.
I'm sure they will hold the music format up to the October long weekend then next week,POW gone, full bore sports.

Fred.

Confirming that 2CH is shutting down and will be gone for good after October.
We have the booth announcer Tim Webster exhorting listeners to hop down to Harvey Norman and buy a DAB radio so you can still listen to CH "classic hits".
If you tune into 1170 AM after October you can be riveted by the dogs at dapto, the runners at randwick and the punters at pimlico!
Sydney badly needed a sports station on the AM band and I just know that THOUSANDS of sports fans have AM radios just ready to go to pick up the latest news about how the Yankees are going, How Tiger is going and all the world sports that you cannot get news on anywhere else....................
This SEN mob must be barking mad, they cannot make a buisness case out of oldies listening to rock on their trannys, how can they make a buisness case out of nobody listening to 1170 for sports that the world and national TV feeds pipe in 24/7?

Just link a FM radio (set to music a channel of your choice) to a AM mW broadcast module set to 1170( or frequency of your choice) and drown the clowns out!
In your own house only of course!
Fred.

With the AFL and NRL being played every day of the week at the moment doesn't help. I'm not sure why the ABC has to be involved when everyone else in doing it. It's a shame that these stations aren't handed over to community radio and have the vitals maintained by the government. It would be good for variety and regional content.

I also have been a 2CH listener for a long While. Reception is not great where I am so I listen to it via an Internet radio app and through the AM modulator . Will this also go over to that dreadful sports formatt?
We also have a very nasty local AM relay station of that horrible 2GB horse racing crap it is so strong you could receive it on a wet string.
I think they used the old 2WL setup at Wingdang a swampy area by the side of the lake.
I can't believe people can listen to it. It is enough to give even the horses hoof rot!
Regards Jim

If you mean the horse-racing station on 1314, then it's a relay of 2KY (not 2GB), and yes it was 2WL before they became Wave-FM.

The DAB signals are too weak to be picked up at Hilltop, where I have no trouble at all on AM. These idiots just don't realise how useless DAB is.

2KY should be renamed 2TAB.

" horse-racing station on 1314"

If you drive past this station on Windang Road, it is strong enough to force any other AM station being listened to to fade right out.
I guess it is strong enough to reduce sensitivity through AGC action, even though you aren't tuned to it.

Yes sorry about that I have never had it on for more than a few seconds tunning past it.
The comment about DAB they must think everyone lives in the inner Sydney area it is just crap . Cannot see it being developed further in my lifetime.

Gazing into my crystal ball....

Over the next 10 years we'll see more "radio" stations move to exclusively IP delivery, especially as 5G is rolled out. This will eventually release frequencies more suited to large cell operation, better suited to sparsely-populated areas.

It won't be too long before someone comes up with a killer digital application for the 0.5MHz to 2MHz band, given its almost complete shut-down in many parts of the world. VHF Band 1 is another band waiting in the wings. Then as digital delivery predominates, VHF Band 2 will go the same way.

Long distance, noise free "radio" with many more "channels" and/or with on-demand streaming - you can choose exactly what you want to hear.

...you can choose exactly what you want to hear.

If they keep 'broadcasting' it.

The advantage of IP transmission is that there is no, or not as much, ACMA regulation of the content. The disadvantage is that the broadcaster is not the only one shelling out for the transmission costs. We pay for downloads but we don't pay to receive wireless broadcasts. I guess we are about halfway through a transition - as we indulge in online video services, maybe one day, online voice will be a norm.

QUOTE: The smooth-talking [Bob] Rogers, now a spirited 93, has announced he is finishing as a broadcaster after a career lasting a remarkable 78 years.

A pioneering disc jockey who was called the fifth Beatle when he toured with the world's biggest pop group in the early 1960s, Rogers will present his final Reminiscing show on Classic Hits 2CH on Saturday night. His departure after 25 years at the station comes after its new owner, Sports Entertainment Network, announced it will launch a sports format and make 2CH a digital station next month.
