Guys, in future, please keep any queries about access to the site to this thread. Over the last two weeks I've seen ad-hoc postings in other threads and forums about the same issue that we all have common knowledge of. Something is being done about this and it will take some time to complete, again, common knowledge.

It will be my intention to delete this thread once the new forums become permanently operational so it will be best to keep the discussion of this topic here.

As for a loss of access to the site this morning, I am not aware of any issue that would cause this and all equipment is operating normally, subject to the issue that has made replacement of the forums necessary.

Still often getting error 500. Usually when trying to open the 2nd thread of the session.

.Brad: I think what Vintage Pete is referring to is this: When not logged into the site, we don't get the top menu which contains the Contact Administrator option, but instead a banner message atop the screen about needing to log in or create an account.

It is not possible to contact administration if you are not logged in!!
I dont have the administration details on my new computer.
On all sites ,if you cant log in or there is a issue you are able to email the administration and let them know .
Not this site.

Anyway stuff it! I'm over at Antique Radios if anyone whats to chat about TVs or radios .
All the best Pete

Easily sorted Pete.

Suggest moving the Contact Administrator option to the lower menu bar, so that it's visible when not logged in. Maybe swap places with Tutorials.

Not really gtc, as he states he has been doing it for 20 years and he is no longer interested in it! Thats what he said and quite frankly it shows.
But mark my words there will other new radio sites where we can all continue our hobby and friendships for those still interested of course.
But I'm out of here !
All the best Pete

Thank you to all the people who took part in my posts
I have had a wonderful time knowing you and I have learnt a lot
I hope I gave you something back in return in the way of cabinet

there will other new radio sites

I very much doubt that, especially with emphasis on vintage Oz gear. The maintenance and upkeep of any forum is a heavy voluntary work load, even when using packaged solutions such as vBulletin, let alone a bespoke application and a team of one, part time.

I think Brad may have misread your original complaint, hence my post above.

Have not been able to connect for most of today. Might be a problem at my end?

Been the same my end GTC.

I hope this site keeps going as there is nothing out there like it.
It would be a great loss to us all but Brad is the one doing all the work so it is definitely his call.

I am afraid that it's at this end. The server was rebooted about two hours ago.

The irony is that I usually check the site when I have brekky at about 09:00 but today I didn't. Naturally the forums died at just that time.

This Sunday, work will continue on the membership area of the new site and I am hoping to have this up and running by the end of March. From that point on, the rest of the site can then be built.

Unfortunately, because the new site is on the same account as the forums, when the forums plays up, it can sometimes drag the new site down with it.

In response to Pete's comments above, the reason the link to Contact the Admin' disappears when members are not logged in is because it leads to a page containing my e-mail address. In early 2006 I removed this link from the standard page for two reasons:-

1. To prevent robots harvesting the e-mail address in order to spam it.
2. To stop people e-mailing me with questions about what should be getting discussed on the forums.

At that point in time, the second issue was probably more important than the first because I wanted to do all I could to encourage people to join the forums in their early stages. When a website only has about twenty members and only two or three of them active every day it is very difficult to get the ball rolling and attract people. When there's between ten and thirty new postings every day with more than 2,000 members, that job's much easier.

Nowadays, the first issue is more important. It's too difficult in this day and age to change e-mail addresses because so much of our interaction on the Internet relies on a working address. At the same time, an e-mail address starts to become unusable when it is heavily spammed. This is why these forums protect all e-mail addresses with a two-layer shield. The first allows members to hide their address from everyone except me, the humble Admin. The second simply blocks all addresses from being displayed to visitors who aren't logged in.

Whilst I understand Pete's frustration with the site of late, he's no worse off than the rest of us and it goes without saying that he is welcome back here at any time.

Error 500 has been more active of late, sometimes it does eventually connect.

I try when ever and see if I can reconnect 50/50 chance.

I hope you are feeling better Brad,

The busier the site gets, the more likely it is to fall over IMO.

And it is getting hammered lately!
