For the record, I've experienced a few 500 errors in the last hour or so. Prior to that all okay for the last few days -- apart from the blackout period.

Tonight I decided to recode the Forum List page and this has been completed. It is still a big page however a lot of old and crappy code has been removed and whilst it is still slower than the rest of the site it should now still load quicker. I did make a mistake which lead to a brief 500 error about ten minutes ago but that's been fixed.

I bumped into the same with lag hitting several page loads and this was 'cured' with a server reboot.
I will be continuing with work on the site this Sunday and the same will apply again with regard to there being short times between 06:00 and 09:00 when the site may not be reachable and when this happens it'll just be me rebooting the server or fixing any mistakes I make. Just try refreshing the page after a minute or two.
I am finding that since completing work done on the 1st October the whole site is loading much quicker (when it is working correctly, that is). I am not confident that I have found the glitch yet however, so I will just soldier on until every file on the site has been reviewed.

Just a message to advise that work will continue on the site this Sunday and there may be some short disruptions to site access between 09:00 and 11:30, NSW time. I am just over the halfway mark with this job. I can see that site performance has improved a lot but I am yet to ascertain as to whether or not the problem is fixed.
Has anyone run into any 500s in the last few days?

This Sunday I will be turning my attention to the forum database and will need to carry out some work on it for about two hours. During this time the site will not be accessible and a test card logo (most of you will have seen this before) will be seen instead just to verify that the server is still online. This work will be carried out between 08:30 and 10:30 NSW time on Sunday, 22nd October.

Just did a server restart.
This weekend I will be working on the session manager which is a global file that performs several functions. I've noticed that when server errors have occurred in the last couple of weeks it has over-written the hit counter at the bottom left of the page and I've had to reset it numerous times.
I won't give anything away just yet as I am not sure but I think I've resolved the main issue causing these errors. It'll be a few more weeks yet before I make a definite announcement in that regard. To date, I am pleased with two things - firstly, the errors are happening less often and secondly, the site is a lot faster now.
If I can find any coding mistakes in the session manager this might just sort things out for good - hopefully.

I've disabled parts of the session manager to help restore stability. I also had to do it when the frequency of the server errors occurred about two months ago. The missing information does indeed have a gruesome look to it - almost as if time has stopped.
I can confirm that if you can see this thread, then you are indeed here.
